Spider 2SGS is a remote-controlled mower specially designed for the maintenance of turf areas around photovoltaic (PV)panels on solar farms.
Spider 2SGS - adapted from Spider ILD02 mower features upgraded hydraulic motors and a lower profile, making it ideal for maintaining the turf beneath and around PV panels.
Solar photovoltaic panels consist of numerous solar photovoltaic cells that are wired together into a series circuit. This means that when the power output of a single cell is significantly reduced, the power output for the whole series is reduced to the level of current passing through the weakest cell.
Therefore, a small amount of shading can significantly reduce the performance of the entire solar photovoltaic panels system. That’s why it’s vitally important to keep the grass maintained around these panels. Loss of generated energy equates to loss of income for the solar farm operator, so the maintenance of these areas cannot be underestimated.
The Spider 2SGS is also the only machine on the market with test certification relating
to thrown objects. Keeping the risk of damage to panels to an absolute minimum.

FEATURES OF THE SPIDER 2SGS SOLAR FARM MOWER |
DIMENSIONS |
- With a height of 825mm, the dimensions of the 2SGS make it perfect for mowing underneath solar panels and other low spaces
POWER UNIT |
- Kawasaki FS 730V EFI Vertical crankshaft V-twin air-cooled 4-stroke 2 cylinder engine, producing 25.5 hp at 2300 rpm
- The engine runs on standard unleaded or premium 95 octane unleaded for maximum performance
- Alloy construction fits into the overall Spider design philosophy of light weight package for optimal power to weight ratio
- Electronic Fuel Injection continually adjusts power to load, keeping blade tip speed constant and ground speed steady.
- High pressure fuel injection technology with electronic fuel pump
- Integrated electronic throttle control
- Electronic controlled ignition timing
- High performance lubrication system
- Dual element air cleaner
- Rotating grass screen to assist effective engine air-cooling
- Cast iron cylinder liners
- Electric starter with a 12-volt on-board battery and electrical system
- 16 litre fuel tank capacity providing between 5 and 7 operating hours depending on slope and conditions
CUTTING DECK |
- The deck body and super structure is made from aluminium alloy to obtain minimum overall weight of 325 kg
- The vertical engine crankshaft is coupled to an electric clutch for engagement/disengagement of the belt driven cutting blades
- The clutch unit incorporates a brake device to stop blade rotation on disengagement
- Cutting is done by 4 double sided mulching blades 505mm long (20 inches)
- Overall cutting width is 1230mm (48 inches)
- The mulching blades are set well within the deck body to minimise the ejection of grass and debris during mowing. The blades are thick hard blade steel.
- Mowing deck height is electrically adjustable from 90 to 140mm
- The height setting is controlled from the operators remote control and is variable during cutting
- An optional 40 to 110mm factory-fitted version of the deck is available, but is not interchangeable with the standard 90 to 140 mm unit
DRIVE AND STEERING |
- A hydrostatic Sauer Danfoss drive system provides continuously variable travel speed in two speed ranges (turtle and rabbit modes) from 0 to 8 km/h, in forward and reverse
- All 4 wheels are driven by the hydraulic motors. All speed, steering and direction controls are located on the operator's wireless remote control
- Steering is 360 degrees on all 4 wheels without lock-to-lock limits
- Tyres are lugged 16x6.5x8 tube tyres
- The Spider Mower is capable of cutting on slopes up to 40 degrees under its own wheel drive
- Beyond these angles, the optional winch system must be utilised to ensure machine stability and safety
- The normal steering mode is referred to as the "dancing" step and is the mode normally used for mowing. In this mode all 4 wheels turn at the same time
- Skid steer mode operation is used to re-orient the mower, typically for mowing along fences, walls, loading
REMOTE CONTROL SYSTEM |
- Other than the clearing of an Emergency-Stop and engagement of winch operation; all operator controls are performed through the wireless remote control station
- The controller comes with a belt strap and is normally strapped to the operator as two-hand operation is required
- If the controller is dropped or all hands released, the controls revert to the neutral position and the Spider mower stops driving
- Controls include: engine start, stop and rpm; E-stop, forward/reverse speed control, steering controls, deck engagement/disengagement, height control
ACCESSORIES |
- A roll of the key tools required to undertake the daily checks and maintence tasks is strapped to the mower
OPTIONS |
Integrated Winch System
- The winch is hydraulically powered and integrated with the drive system
- At extreme angles, the winch system provides machine stability, traction and prevents rollover
- The integrated winch control is automatically synchronised with the drive wheel control, and does not require any additional operator controls
- The winch also maintains the engine orientation to ensure engine lubrication
- Extraordinary as it is, this is a 60 degree slope
- Such slopes would ordinarily be considered beyond the normal practical limit of a maintainable slope
- But the Spider Mower with integrated winch system is capable of cutting such slopes
- A typical illustration of the hydraulic winch system in operation
- In this example the winch rope is anchored to a road-side guard rail
- Follow this link for more examples of the winch in operation
- Easily transported in a 7 x 5 galvanised trailer
- Loads with aluminium folding ramps for light weight
- Caged trailer provides security for extras such as fuel containers and other mowing equipment
